Measure the widest point
Open and secure the stand as its maker instructs. Measure across the widest tips of the feet, including protruding levers or screws. For an irregular footprint, record both width and depth. The measurement that matters is the usable space inside the collar, not its decorative outside diameter.
Look at the shape from the side
Tapered collars become narrower towards the top. A stand may fit at floor level but catch higher up on the wall. Compare the stand height and protrusions with the collar’s internal profile, and leave room to operate any pedal or clamps.
Check the opening and assembly
A one-piece ring may need to go over the stand before the tree is assembled. Hinged or sectional collars can often be placed around it afterwards; check the particular product. Leave a route for watering a real tree, rather than treating the collar as a sealed box.
Make a paper template
Mark the proposed outer footprint on the floor with paper, without creating a trip hazard. Check the space against the lowest branches, furniture and walking routes. Our fit planner gives a starting target using a clearance allowance you choose. It cannot verify a product’s taper, locking parts or compatibility.
